Private- and public-sector employees may get a crack at it as part of a new executive exchange program officials are considering. Under the terms of the program, up to 30 executives could temporarily work at GAO. GAO managers would be encouraged to work in other fields. "It is good to have some cross-fertilization," said GAO Comptroller General David Walker. "What it is all about is knowledge sharing, best practices — recognizing that the public sector can learn from the private sector, and believe it or not, the private sector can learn from the public sector." The job descriptions at GAO vary. In his 17-year tenure at the agency, Chris Keisling has driven a tank, flown in a C-140 cargo plane over the Andes, searched for illegal cocaine factories in the jungles of Peru aboard a helicopter and gone through chemical weapons training with live chemical agents. But he's also logged time reviewing Internal Revenue Service records.
