Hope you didn’t miss the Federal 100 awards banquet, our annual rite of black-tie social networking at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in McLean, Va. Family, friends and colleagues toasted 100 doers and visionaries in government and industry for their public service in 2007.
Deidre Lee accepted a President’s Award for her career in government, and Lt. Gen.
Charles Croom and Donna Morea received the government and industry Eagle Awards at the 1105 Government Information Group event. The new President’s Award recognizes a person for exceptional career leadership in the government information technology community.
Lee, director of management and chief acquisition officer at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is retiring after a 30-year career in government.
Accepting the President’s Award, she thanked taxpayers for giving her great career opportunities.
“I hope I have delivered back to you,” she said.
Croom, director of the Defense Information Systems Agency and commander of the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations, said his first priority at DISA was speeding the department’s acquisition process to meet soldiers’ needs. Introducing Croom as the winner, David Wennergren, DOD’s deputy chief information officer, said Croom was “a renaissance kind of guy for his leadership, business acumen and good heart.”
The Eagle winner from industry, Morea, is president of U.S. and India at CGI. She is vice president of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and recently completed her work as chairwoman of the 2007 Kidney Ball, a National Kidney Foundation benefit that raised a record $1.3 million.
Morea also serves on the board of directors of Crossway Community, which delivers educational and supportive services to low-income, at-risk families.
“I’m almost speechless,” Morea said while accepting the award. “But as many of you know, I’m hardly ever speechless.”
