Security finalists
The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, a nonprofit group for information security professionals, announced the finalists of its 4th annual Government Information Security Leadership Awards.
(ISC)2 is giving three awards in three different categories.
The 2007 final nominees are:
Category: Nonmanagerial IT Security Professional
- Anthony Celata, designated approving authority, Trojan Network Control Center, Army Information Security Command.
- Cheri Gatland-Lightner, project manager, Office of the Chief Information Security Officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Health and Human Services Department.
- Cynthia Gentille, facility information security officer, Field Security Service, Veterans Affairs
Department.
Category: Senior Non-IT Security Manager
- Chris Niedermayer, associate chief information officer, Information and Technology Management, Agriculture Department.
- Bob Otto, chief technology officer and chief information officer, U.S. Postal Service.
- John Stoute, acting CIO and director, Business Technology Optimization, Program Support Center, HHS.
Category: Senior IT Security Manager
- George Bieber, deputy, Information Assurance Human Resources and Training, Defense-wide Information Assurance Program, Defense Department.

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner ceremony Oct. 3 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.

Comings and goings
Bajinder Paul, deputy CIO for information technology operations, has been named the agency’s acting CIO. Housing and Urban Development Department CIO Lisa Schlosser, has been deployed to Iraq as an Army reservist.
Tom Temin, former editor in chief of Government Computer News, will be taking to the radio. Temin will be co-anchor on Washington radio station WFED-AM 1050’s morning program. Temin left GCN after 1105 Media purchased PostNewsweek Tech Media. 1105 Media is the parent company of Federal Computer Week.
Capt. Henry (Hank) Krakowski has been named the chief operating officer of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Organization, effective Oct. 1. As COO, Krakowski will oversee the operational and financial performance of the air traffic control system and FAA’s research and acquisition programs.
