Pentagon awards $18.4M VOIP contract to General Dynamics
The Pentagon is moving to voice over IP as part of its continuing renovation work. The Defense Department awarded General Dynamics Network Systems a contract worth $18.4 million to design and install VOIP for DOD’s Renovation and Construction program office.
The modernization award is for work on the Wedge 2-5 phase affecting 4 million square feet of space in the Pentagon. The project is part of a complete overhaul of the Pentagon’s physical plant and information technology and telecommunications infrastructures.
The renovation, under way since September 2001, is scheduled to be completed in December 2010.
GSA awards $750 million satellite services contract
The General Services Administration has awarded contracts to 24 companies to provide federal agencies with satellite telecommunications services.
The $750 million Satcom II contract offers services in areas nationwide and worldwide where traditional networks and cellular links often fail. The services will support handheld receivers and full broadband computer networks, according to GSA.
“Agencies have a presence globally, and Satcom II will satisfy those agencies wherever they are,” said John Johnson, assistant commissioner of integrated technology services at GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service.
Twenty-four companies won Satcom II awards, including nine small businesses. The five-year contract, worth as much as $750 million, enables agencies to buy services and related equipment.
“We’re not only providing satellite communications today, but we’ve designed Satcom II to keep pace with the phenomenal growth in satellite technology we expect over its five-year contract life,” said Jim Williams, FAS commissioner.
CACI gets $91M task order
The Army awarded a four-year, $91 million task order to CACI International for communications support for the Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems headquarters at Fort Monmouth, N.J.
CACI will supply satellite-to-ground telecommunications systems engineering, information technology, field support services, and training and logistics.
The Army made the award through its $19.2 billion Army Strategic Services Sourcing contract announced in March 2006.
Small businesses picked for Air Force acquisition support services
The Air Force has picked eight small businesses to provide services for its Electronic Systems Center. The scope of work includes acquisition support, financial management, administrative and human resources services.
The companies are Abacus Technology, Business Technologies and Solutions, Gemini Industries, Oasis Systems, Odyssey Systems Consulting Group, PESystems, Quantech Services and Sumaria Systems.
Under the Air Force’s $800 million Professional Advisory Support Services program, the companies will provide nontechnical acquisition support to the center for five years. The services will be provided at the center’s headquarters at Hanscom Air Force Base,Mass., and other locations nationwide.
The Air Force expects to award the first three task orders in the next few weeks.
