The Defense Department has named six vendors to support its efforts to create an infrastructure for global online collaboration.

The Defense Information Systems Agency awarded the information technology support contracts under the Encore II program, which has an estimated value of $12.2 billion for the winning companies during a 10-year period.

The six Encore II awards went to Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, EDS, Lockheed Martin, Science Applications International Corp. and SRA International.

According to the Encore II request for proposals, DISA intends to use the contracts to support users as the agency transitions to a major DISA program, Net-Centric Enterprise Services. Under that program, DOD is creating a departmentwide Web portal providing access to knowledge databases and collaboration tools.
