Glenn Schlarman, the Office of Management and Budget's chief of the Information Policy and Technology Branch, has announced that he retiring. He is not going into the private sector, but plans to spend time with his family.
His last day is Dec. 1.
Schlarman has been in that post since February 2004 and has a distinguished government career. He replaced Dan Chenok, who left OMB for the private sector.
Before this tour at OMB, Schlarman served as the Energy Department's associate chief information officer for cybersecurity. Before that, he was a policy analyst specializing in cybersecurity at OMB's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
Schlarman has often played a quieter, behind-the-scenes role at OMB, but is widely respected and seen as a palpable force. In his current job, he has been responsible for developing and overseeing federal policies, including those related to information access and dissemination, privacy, security, records management, and information technology investments.
