The procurement office for aggregated buying is preparing to enter formal negotiations with several companies for antivirus protection and software management services, according to the CIO Council’s Web site.
The SmartBuy office plans to negotiate with CA, Symantec and Trend Micro for network antivirus protection and Internet content security software and services, according to notices posted Aug. 29 on the site.
SmartBuy is talking with CA about security, identity and access management that protects information technology environments against network viruses.
Additionally, the office is preparing for formal negotiations with McAfee about antivirus software to secure systems and networks from undiscovered threats, a notice states.
SmartBuy is also preparing to talk with Sophos for protection for file servers and desktop and laptop computers on a wide range of platforms, including Microsoft Windows, according to the notices.
“Securing your desktop and server systems is a never-ending task — new threats continue to appear and known malicious software does not disappear,” one of the notices states.
SmartBuy is a government initiative that supports effective enterprise-level software management through the aggregate buying of commercial software to get bulk savings.
