The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles has extended its drivers license issuance and vehicle registration contract with Digimarc for two years.
The extension is valued at about $7 million. The Louisiana agency has been a Digimarc customer for five years. The company, based in Beaverton, Ore., supplies secure identity and media management products. It said its products and services account for the annual production of two-thirds of U.S. drivers licenses.
Separately, Digimarc released this week Biometric Identification 2.0. The solution aims to identify cases in which an individual applying for a drivers license already has one under a different identity. The system uses facial-recognition technologies to match an applicants new portrait to the issuing agencys database of licensing images.
Massachusetts recently implemented Biometric Identification 2.0, and Oregon and Texas have ordered the solution, according to Digimarc. The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and Massachusetts State Police provided input for the solutions development, the company said.
The Massachusetts agencies use the product to run 4,000 to 5,000 applicant images taken daily against a database of about 10 million images.
