Alan Balutis has added another job to his résumé. After resigning from Input earlier this month, he has joined Cisco Systems as a distinguished fellow and director of North American Public Sector Consulting for Cisco's Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG). Balutis will collaborate with the company's federal team and support the company's state and local, health care, and education practices. His job will be to provide research and analysis, thought leadership, case studies, and best practices expertise. Balutis is the first IBSG distinguished fellow, according to the company. “As we begin our fiscal year this month at Cisco, we are focused on doing an even better job of working with government customers to help in transformation and change,” said Simon Willis, director of the public sector at IBSG, in a prepared statement. “By bringing on such a well-recognized and respected leader as Alan Balutis, Cisco is enabling its government customers to benefit from the kind of thought leadership he has brought to public-sector organizations over his multifaceted career. It is significant that the first person to be named IBSG distinguished fellow is Alan Balutis – one of the most distinguished [information technology] leaders in the public-sector market today.” Most recently, Balutis was president and chief executive officer of government strategies at Input. He has also led the Industry Advisory Council and its parent group, the American Council for Technology. In addition, he has served president and chief operating officer of consulting firm Veridyne. Before joining the private sector, Balutis spent 27 years at the Commerce and Health and Human Services -- then called Health, Education and Welfare -- departments. He is a founding member of the CIO Council.
