The Interior Department’s National Business Center is offering services to help agencies meet the Oct. 27 deadline to begin issuing identification cards to employees and contractors, the center announced today. Center officials said they will offer services related to complying with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 separately or as part of an integrated solution that spans an employee’s career. “Quality customer service, innovative products and services, and best value are the cornerstones of the NBC,” the announcement states. Issued in August 2004, the HSPD-12 mandate requires that the cards be interoperable with various access systems at federal facilities. NBC is a shared services center for the government’s human resources and financial management lines of business. Officials believe offering support for the HSPD-12 personal identity verification process builds on the center’s service experience, according to the announcement. The General Services Administration offers similar HSPD-12 services. On Aug. 17, GSA awarded BearingPoint a contract worth $104.6 million to provide a turnkey solution to produce ID cards that meet credential requirements.
