The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will deploy surveillance camera systems as part of an effort to manage traffic congestion in the McLean area of Fairfax County. Video Convergence, a division of Cornet Technology, will supply the camera systems under what the company described as a long-term contract with the state. Video Convergence focuses on video surveillance products and integration services. Cornet Technology, based in Springfield, Va., is a manufacturing and professional services company. Video Convergence will install the cameras on arterial roadways that feed traffic into freeways in VDOT’s Northern Operations Region. VDOT currently operates cameras on freeways but not arterials. The new camera systems will transmit video via an IP network directly to VDOT’s Smart Traffic Center in Arlington, Va. All of Video Convergence’s revenue stems from projects with state and local transportation authorities, according to a company spokesperson.
