Tom Ridge, former secretary of the Homeland Security Department and two-term governor of Pennsylvania, has joined the board of directors at Iridium Satellite, a provider of global satellite voice and data solutions. “Ridge brings a deep knowledge of homeland security from both the national perspective as the first secretary of [DHS], but also from the state and local levels as Pennsylvania governor, presiding over state port facilities, airports and some of the largest cities in the country,” said Dan Colussy, Iridium Satellite’s chief executive officer and chairman, in a statement. After the 2001 terrorist attacks, President Bush chose Ridge to lead the newly created DHS. In January 2003, the department became Cabinet level, and Ridge organized and oversaw a combined 22 federal agencies and 180,000 employees. Ridge served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1995 to 2001.
