The Information Technology Association of America praised today a new agreement between the United States and the European Union to seek stronger enforcement of intellectual property rights. “Kudos to U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, United States Trade Representative Susan Schwab, EU Commission Vice President responsible for Enterprise and Industry Policy Gunter Verheugen, and EU Commissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson for their work on an agreement that will strengthen IP rights enforcement and crack down on counterfeiters around the world,” Joe Tasker, ITAA senior vice president, said in a statement. “Intellectual property lies at the heart of [IT], and we are extremely pleased that the U.S. and EU have agreed to work together on this vitally important issue,” he said.
