Scott Charbo, the Homeland Security Department's chief information officer, has been tasked to also serve as the agency's acting under secretary for management, the agency announced late today. Charbo, who was nominated to the DHS CIO post last summer, will replace Janet Hale, who resigned as under secretary for management in March. Charbo will continue to serve at DHS's CIO. As under secretary for management, Charbo will be responsible for a wide range of agency functions above and beyond information technology including budgeting, procurement, and human resources. "Scott’s wealth of experience in the public and private sectors will serve him well in this position," DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff said in a statement. "Scott will also continue to serve as the department’s Chief Information Officer, responsible for the information technology management for over 180,000 employees." "I look forward to working with Scott as we continue to fully integrate our management architecture and strengthen accountability in our financial and personnel systems," Chertoff said.
