The Office of Management and Budget’s Federal Enterprise Architecture Management System (FEAMS) will close later this month as OMB focuses on Component Organization and Registration Environment, or CORE.gov, an OMB official said today.
FEAMS met its needs, but as the Federal Enterprise Architecture Program Management Office faces a tighter budget in the coming year, OMB’s chief architect Richard Burk said that the office had to make a business decision. Therefore, FEAMS will close April 30.
The information FEAMS offered agencies was not what they seemed to want, Burk said. They wanted information that was further developed.
Both FEAMS and CORE.gov are Web-based repositories of inter- and intra-agency information. They allow officials from different agencies to post information about case studies and best practices as well as software they have developed. Multiple agencies can share the resources.
Some people have compared FEAMS to lifting the hood of a car and seeing the engine. The governmentwide database gives agencies a cross-government glimpse into programs and solutions at other agencies. FEAMS allows them to seek common solutions and areas of collaboration, rather than wait for OMB officials to point out the opportunities after budget plans are submitted.
