Pennsylvania Secretary of Administration Naomi Wyatt has appointed Brenda Orth as the Administration Department’s deputy secretary of information technology and state chief information officer.

Orth succeeds Kristen Miller, who state officials said resigned to return to the private sector.

In her new position, Orth will lead and coordinate IT services for the state in keeping with Gov. Edward Rendell’s management objectives. She will oversee governmentwide technology policies, standards, architecture and solutions to enhance system interoperability, data security and cost effectiveness.

Most recently, Orth was the state’s chief technology officer. She has worked as an IT professional for the state government since 2003. Before entering the public sector, she worked as an IT professional for Exxon Mobil Corp.

Wyatt said that Orth’s more than 25 years’ of management experience in the field of information systems enables her to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.

“She also has the drive and energy to tackle our important IT initiatives,” Wyatt said. “Under her leadership, we will continue to develop sound policies and deliver efficient and effective IT services across the [state].”
