The chief information officers of the military and the intelligence community signed an agreement earlier this month aimed at improving the sharing of intelligence information, the Pentagon said this week.
The agreement will pave the way toward a Web-based information environment through which Pentagon and intelligence officials can access secure services, as opposed to individual applications, according to a July 19 Defense Department statement.
The system will be based on “common standards, rules and interoperable secure infrastructure services,” the statement reads. Pentagon CIO John Grimes and retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Dale Meyerrose, CIO in the office of the Director of National Intelligence, will jointly lead a board to oversee the development of these components, according to the agreement.
“The key value proposition of a service-based environment is to enable greater and more flexible information and capability sharing across the Defense Department, the intelligence community, the rest of the federal government and other mission partners,” the agreement states.
