Integrated Biometric Technology ended its two-and-a-half-month protest of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) contract and accepted a subcontract under Lockheed Martin.
The subcontract will be for equipment and enrollment infrastructure services for the TWIC program, which has been delayed until fall 2007. The Transportation Security Administration, which manages the program, will eventually issue cards to 770,000 maritime and port workers.
IBT protested the $68.7 million contract award Feb. 8, a little more than a week after TSA awarded the contract to Lockheed Martin and disclosed the final rules governing the identity cards.
“We believe our core capabilities complement the strengths of this team,” said Robert LaPenta, chairman, president and chief executive officer of L-1 Identity Solutions, IBT’s parent company. He added that he is prohibited from revealing the value or terms of the subcontract.
