The state of Oregon has tapped EDS Corp. to provide a Medicaid management information system, the company announced this week.

Under the $73 million, seven-year-three-month contract, which includes three one-year options, EDS will build and maintain a new Medicaid system that will replace a 30-year-old legacy system.

The company also will provide Medicaid pharmacy benefit management services, implement a new decision-support surveillance subsystem and work with the Oregon Human Services Department to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

The system design is consistent with the Medicaid IT architecture framework established by the federal government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the company said.

The Oregon Medicaid program provides healthcare benefits to about 600,000 people annually across the state through 31,000 medical service providers. The state processes more than 26 million Medicaid transactions annually.
