The Marine Corps has awarded a contract to Accenture Ltd. to design and implement a global supply chain and maintenance system, according to company officials. The initial phase of the work will take six months and is valued at $4.5 million.
Under the contract, Accenture will provide planning and analysis for the Marine Corps’ Global Combat Support System, which will be based on Oracle’s E-Business Suite applications.
The new system is part of a program designed to modernize the Corps’ logistics, supply chain planning, procurement and maintenance service capabilities. The system also is expected to improve the tracking, transport and distribution of supplies from support units to Corps forces around the world.
The Global Combat Support System is designed to provide interoperability with other Defense Department organizations; give Marine Corps personnel worldwide access to supply chain and maintenance information; and reduce carrying costs, wait times for supplies and services, and training time.
