The last few days the temperature has been about the same in Boston and DC -- it's finally gotten nice and warm here. This afternoon as I was walking from my office to the T (what you guys in Washington call the Metro), the street musicians were out. One was actually singing "If You're Going to San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)," Scott McKenzie's 1966 classic about the summer of love. Or is it Scott MacKenzie -- can a fellow-boomer help me out here (Tom Davis, my rock trivia partner, help!!!!!)? The guy was singing right outside Peet's Coffee, a Harvard Square import from Berkeley. And another guy outside the Harvard Coop was singing Dylan.

All right, so Cambridge is still living in the sixties.

To those who don't regard Massachusetts as part of America, I can also report that I took a visiting British colleague to our Concord small-town America Memorial Day parade. (She is in town for a meeting we're having this Thursday to go over chapters for a book honoring the twentieth anniversary of the Ford Foundation/Kennedy School Innovations in American Government awards program. Awards for innovation -- sounds like another blast from the past these days!)
