Summertime and the livin’ is easy…or so goes the song. Summer is a good time to catch up on your reading and also to pick up some networking skills. Professional groups in the area can help you stay away from summer doldrums.

Women in Technology (WIT) has a full event calendar on its Web site for members and non-members. On June 28 WIT is having a session on information sharing in the Defense Department and the intelligence community. On July 9, the group will have an evening speed networking event in Tysons Corner, Va.

Following a talk on “Encouraging Creativity in a Technical Environment” by Carrie Edwards, Managing Partner of White + Partners, there will be a speed networking exercise. Each participant is guaranteed to have a minimum of 12 face-to-face introductions with other attendees.

Summer may be the time to check on the organizations you have been thinking of joining for networking, skill building, and fun. After all, we send our kids to camps and programs for the same reasons -– why not do it for ourselves?
