Next to global warming, I think itâs time to stop e-mail. Summer vacations are about to start and no one wants to think about what it will be like when they return to the office. People tell me how they came back from vacation to find 537 or 982 or more e-mails (always a precise number) waiting for their attention. It almost like a contest about who has the most e-mails waiting for them.
Having so many e-mails makes it hard to sort out what is important and what must get done first. And it takes time to go through them. Experts on the subject say you need to set aside brief time every day to quickly scan e-mails and place the important one in Outlook folders for action later or sooner. Then delete, delete, delete. Easier said than done.
There are many tips on handling e-mail, including a new book, titled SEND. Itâs got a lot of good advice that Iâll write about soon. Maybe the button should be named THINK. That would save a lot of e-mails.
