So our second issue of the year hits the streets Monday. The cover features the bold words, âMission: Impossible,â and the story is about the Government Printing Officeâs effort to transform itself in an era where printing is less important. We were fascinated by the story because publishing, of course, has become an essential part of what the agencies do, but for many citizens, they can get information directly from agency Web sites rather then having to do go, say, a GPO book store. So GPO officials are having to rethink what the role of the organization is in the digital world.
In conjunction with that, we have also posted an online multi-media package, which you can find at www.fcw.com/gpo.
There we have posted a slide show where FCW senior reporter Aliya Sternstein, who wrote and reported the GPO story, and I discuss how this story came about. We also have audio clips from our interview with Public Printer Bruce James, so you can hear him speak for himself.
Later this week, I will post my impressions from that interview⦠and how this is just the start of changes you will be seeing online⦠both here at FCW.com and elsewhere.
And before you say it⦠yes, weâll eventually get Podcasts so you can download these things on to your iPod or whatever.
