Trying to stay up to date on FCW's Federal News Radio show, called the Government IT Solutions Spotlight featuring Federal Computer Week and sponsored by CDW-G. The show airs each Tuesday at 10a ET on Federal News Radio AM 1050.

This week in the spotlight: continuity of operations plans.

In the June 16 issue of Federal Computer Week, we feature the first of a two-part series on COOP. (For the record, it isn't COOP plans, our copy desk points out. COOP stands for "continuity of operations plans." So if one says COOP plans, it ends up being repetitive... like ATM machine.) This week's issue looks at the COOP-telework connection and we talk to, among others, the Transportation Department, which used the Pope's DC visit to test their COOP and telework operations.

The June 23 issue of Federal Computer Week will look at COOP and security.

For the FCW-Federal News Radio show, we also focused on COOP, talking to Josh Sawislak, a senior adviser to the administrator at the General Services Administration and acting chief emergency response and recovery officer. (For those playing along at home, that acronym would be CERARO.) Sawislak has been spearheading GSA's COOP efforts.

So there is a lot to talk about including GSA's recent COOP test, what they have learned, telework, security.

And, if you listen carefully, there was a huge thunderstorm going through as we were recording the show. You can hear some of it in the background if you listen carefully. In fact, Sawislak noted that when he got home that night, he had no power at home. Frankly, I was worried that my power would go out at the office and we'd lose our phones.

And... I'm still looking for insights about how things went last week with DC's power outage.

On future shows... On June 24 at 10a ET on DC's Federal News Radio AM 1050, we're talking to EPA CIO Molly O'Neill, who I have had the opportunity to get to know over the past year and is one of the best and the brightest. Also coming up, we're going to talk transition... and we're going to have Harvard Prof. Steve Kelman on to talk about... whatever he wants to talk about. (Kelman, of course, is a FCW columnist and a FCW.com blogger.)
