The first show for the new season aired this past Tuesday and we focused on collaboration or Web 2.0 or government 2.0 -- whatever you want to call it. As I say in the opening, I think Web 2.0 tends to scare people, so I'm tending to talk about collaboration and information sharing tools.
We have been doing this radio program for about three years now in conjunction with DC all-news station WTOP -- or as they say on air, "103.5 FM, WTOP radio" -- and 'TOP's sister station, Federal News Radio.
Up until this year, the show has been called Trends in Technology. This year, they wanted us to focus more on the "solutions" aspect of technology, so this year the show is called "Government IT Solutions Spotlight." (Yeah, I know -- catchy. We can just all call it GITSS for short, which is better then the acronym for our old show, but this is a family blog, so I'm not going there.)
This year, we are blessed to again have Adam Tuss as the host of the program. Tuss is the "sprawl and crawl" reporter for WTOP. I have become good friends with Tuss (link is to his FCW "A few minutes with..." interview from 2006) and his wife (last year's interview)... and I even get to go to their wedding in mid-July down in Nashville. Tuss is very talented and I'm thrilled that he is on the show again this year.
So we will try to offer some voices behind the stories that we cover as we continue with GITSS, or, as I like to call it, WFCW. The shows are posted on Federal News Radio's Web site and they will also be posted at www.fcw.com/radio.
And... I will also post them here as often as I can.
A few program notes (I've always wanted to say that): For the show airing next Tuesday, May 27, we will be talking about mobile computing with a number of people from the 1105 Government Information Group publications. This comes out of a 360-degree package of stories on mobile -- FCW focusing on policies of securing mobile data and managing with mobile machines (ie, smart phones); GCN focusing on mobile applications; and Washington Technology focusing on the business opportunities arising out of mobile.
The following week, June 2, we will have Harvard Business School Prof. Andrew McAfee. McAfee is the man who essentially invented the term "Enterprise 2.0," which is just too cool for words. FCW profiled McAfee last year and last week, we featured his blog as one of the five blogs worth reading. McAfee is one of the keynote speakers at 1105 GovInfo's Government Leadership Summit coming up next month. (If you are interested in attending, let me know ASAP.)
