You all have been just amazing about filling in the gaps in my list. In fact, you have been too amazing. (It was hard to get work done today with all the e-mails coming in on this subject.)

So I think I now have the most complete list of government themed movies anywhere -- so there!

So, here is the full list is alphabetical order.

We are spending some time now coming up with the pairings and then we will post brackets and we'll get going. I think we are going to pare it down to 32 movies -- 64 just seems too much. So that's what I'm working on. (See -- not a bad job!?!)

If you still have movies that we somehow forgot, post them as a comment.

And if you have suggestions on pairings, like Air Force One vs Patriot Games. I'd love those suggestions too.

How can you forget 'Spies Like Us"?

Emmett Fitz-Hume: Are there any Paraguyans here? [subtle laugh] Emmett Fitz-Hume: Well of course their requests for subsidies was not paraguayan in and of it is as it were the United States government would never have if the president, our president, had not and as far as I know that's the way it will always be. Is that clear?

Two classics need to be included (How could anyone ignore these?!): -- Executive Action (c. 1973) -- Full Metal Jacket (19??) -- (And if you are not excluding animated films, let us not forget the Beavis and Butthead movie of a few years ago. Lots of Feds in that one!)

My Vote is for the NOVA documentary: In the Path of a Killer Volcano. This really highlights the day by day decisions that USGS personnel were making it what became a life or death situation - the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in the Phillipines.

If we're talking about (city) government in the movies, why not 'Blue Thunder'?

New technology, corruption, man vs. bureaucracy... what's not to like?

You forgot National Treasure!

I think you need to pare it down to directly American Federal Government related. You could include, sub catagory "Public trying to deal with American Federal Government."
