My favorite e-gov site ever

I keep meaning to include this, but it comes from ACT/IAC's recent Executive Leadership Conference held in Williamsburg, VA last month -- and, frankly, I don't remember who mentioned it. I believe it was the always fascinating William Eggers , director of Deloitte Research, but I'm not sure...

Anyway, Australia has the National Public Toilet Map, which, of course, is part of the Australian National Continence Management Strategy.

Do we even have a continence management strategy?

The National Public Toilet Map (the Map) shows the location of more than 14,000 public and private public toilet facilities across Australia. Details of toilet facilities can also be found along major travel routes and for shorter journeys as well. Useful information is provided about each toilet, such as location, opening hours, availability of baby change rooms, accessibility for people with disabilities and the details of other nearby toilets.

The development of the Map and the Web site is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing as part of the National Continence Management Strategy.

And talk about cool -- the site features a trip Planner that lets people identify toilet stops for a journey... you can create "My Toilet Map" where you can  "register for My Toilet Map to save your trips, favourite destinations and public toilets."

And they even have a newsletter, which provides quarterly updates on the National Public Toilet Map project, including new toilets.

All of this is very interesting, but they do not address the question of whether the water flushing in the toilet goes the opposite way there in the southern hemisphere as it does here in the northern hemisphere.

Or... you can go ahead and make up your own Larry Craig joke.
