In The New Office Space Jackson West writes about how many techies and entrepreneurs are using independent coffee houses as mobile office space. If all you need is a laptop and a cell phone to do business, why pay for rent AND coffee? In the comments, readers have been giving names of great mobile work spaces -- mostly in the San Francisco area. I scrolled through the comments and didnât see any mention of places around DC. If you search in Google local for "coffee wireless internet 22042" (the office ZIP), a handful show up. This isn't even a fraction of what's out there.
As much as I like coffee, I find our local shops too distracting. I head for the library. But I have met colleagues at the coffee place and was glad of the free wi-fi connection.
Starbucks is often crowded, Paneras has better food (more selection) and the library is quieter. So where are your favorite wi-fi enabled places to work outside office and home? Do you consciously choose wi-fi enabled spots for business lunches? Whatâs your place? Send them in, and weâll put them on a map.
