The report cites all the usual benefits to telework, and notes how popular it is in the private sector. Two factoids in the report from Robert Half International (a staffing consultancy):
33% of CFOs said telework is the No. 1 incentive to attract top talent.
46% said telework is second only to salary as the top draw.
A couple of trends perceived to be controversial didn't resonate with our respondents. [Federal IT workers] don't consider telework a top priority. Workers satisfied in their jobs and those not as happy ranked telework last among the priorities for job satisfaction. Only six out of 175 people who aren't satisfied in their jobs said the inability to telecommute was the top reason for their dissatisfaction.
Why the difference? Maybe the difference is not so much between the public and private sectors but rather between the general working population and the IT workforce. On the other hand, youâd think a lot of IT work would be ideally suited for telework. Or did we get a skewed response to the survey?
