Here are a couple of recent job-related items you might want to check out:

The DC Salary Survey 2006 for nonprofits includes salary ranges for a variety of non profit positions — including IT and database management. It also features trend charts and commentary.

IEEE’s Spectrum takes a look at the R&D job market across 19 technology areas. According to the article, Where the tech jobs are, the bullish segments were the prepackaged software and OEM industries, both of which were predicting R&D staffing increases. But then this:

Surprisingly, then, when we asked our survey participants which area they would recommend to an engineering student interested in an R&D career, Prepackaged Software and OEM ended up near the bottom of the list (Storage and Consumer Computers tied for last place, with just one vote each out of 646 respondents). Instead, practically tying for first place were Biomedical and Wireless/Mobile technologies, with 103 and 102 votes apiece; Energy came in third with 95 votes. A further 85 survey takers recommended pursuing an R&D career in academia, without specifying an area.

Though it’s more science than IT, you might still want to see where the technology jobs are headed.

And finally, a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on government and tech-related job growth in the greater DC metro area, with emphasis on Fairfax County. See Industry dynamics in the Washington, DC, area: has a second job core emerged?
