Last week the Supreme Court announced that starting with the October 2006 term, the Court will make transcripts of oral arguments available on its Website â the same day. Turns out that up until now, it took two weeks before transcripts were available online, unless you wanted to purchase them.
In the past, oral arguments had been transcribed off-site from audio recordings. The Court's current contract reporting service, Alderson Reporting Company, will now utilize the services of a court reporter in the Courtroom and high-speed technology to transcribe the oral arguments more quickly.
I hope this doesnât spell the end of Nina Totenbergâs dramatic readings of the great Q&A among the justices.
