There was a discussion on Slashdot earlier this week about Microsoft contractors. “Orange Badge Culture at Microsoft� catalogs the advantages and disadvantages of being a Microsoft contractor – and wearing an orange ID badge. Financial contractors and other IT (non-Microsoft) contractors chimed in, often supporting the notion that in the commercial IT world contractors are second-class citizens. They get few benefits – no health insurance, no good parking places – but the contractors did admit to getting more money and having a lot more flexibility.
