There was a discussion on Slashdot earlier this week about Microsoft contractors. âOrange Badge Culture at Microsoftâ? catalogs the advantages and disadvantages of being a Microsoft contractor â and wearing an orange ID badge. Financial contractors and other IT (non-Microsoft) contractors chimed in, often supporting the notion that in the commercial IT world contractors are second-class citizens. They get few benefits â no health insurance, no good parking places â but the contractors did admit to getting more money and having a lot more flexibility.
Is it the same in the public sector? Whatâs the relationship between career federal IT managers and their contractor counterparts?
