A Reuters story is running everywhere this week: Soldiers bond with battlefield robots. In spite of the misleading headline, itâs actually a good story on how small companies with government R&D contracts modify their technologies for wider consumption. iRobot, the company that makes PackBot the bomb-diffusing robot used in Iraq and Afghanistan, is also the maker of the Roomba, the robotic vacuum cleaner.
The Reuters story doesnât mention that PackBot, along with iRobotâs other military-use devices, runs Linux. LinuxDevices.com has several stories on this. See the related links at the bottom.
