If you read the story in the Washington Post (Fort Detrick Neighbors Jittery Over Expansion) on the proposed expansion of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, MD., you might be interested in this new site from the Federation of American Scientists designed to be an Internet resource for biosecurity policy, bioterrorism information, and biodefense research. The Biosecurity and Biodefense Resource summarizes the activities and responsibilities of more than 30 federal organizations (from OSTP to congressional committees) and more than 20 university policy centers that focus on biosecurity policy. Also included are non-governmental organizations, international groups and biological threats info. This last section describes potential bacterial and viral threat agents, indicators of a biological attack, and what to do in such an event. Features links to a variety of public health officials, university-based centers, non-governmental organizations and the government agencies.
