Thereâs a good story about the history and future of NASA on the Seed Magazine site. How to Build a Better NASA discusses the future of space science in light of the Presidentâs Vision for Space Exploration and annual budget wrangling in Congress. As bleak as the near-term prospects are, the author argues that in the long term, NASA will come back around to its beginnings -- an agency primarily dedicated to space science and exploration. Once the Shuttle missions are concluded, attention will focus on the International Space Station and its designation as a national laboratory where public and private researchers can conduct experiments.
The other shift at NASA relates to its intention to employ private transportation services for supplying the space station, so that the agency can spend its money on science and exploration rather than on ultra-long-distance trucking.
