The Hill is running an article about the obvious and not-so-obvious media that CMS has used to try to get its message out to seniors. An unusual mix: seniors and healthcare podcasts quotes the advocates and opponents of the wackier tactics CMS has used to get seniorsâ attention. While many thought the 1-800âMEDICARE blimp was over the top, then-CMS administrator Tom Scully said that calls from seniors calls because of the campaign.
Because I would have been one of the first to snort at the blimp idea, Iâm skeptical about dissing the Medicare Part D podcasts. It sure *seems* like the wrong platform for that audience, but who can say?
I really like that agencies are testing out new technologies. The cost is minimal, and whereas the impact might not be big, the opportunity to learn from the experiment and apply that knowledge elsewhere is huge.
So if Grandpa has an iPod on his wish-list, be sure to subscribe to the CMS podcasts on iTunes. Hereâs FirstGovâs list of federal podcasts, but I donât think itâs complete.
