The Miller Internet Data Integrity Scale, produced by Stephen C. Miller at the New York Times, describes the "hierarchy of trust" that reporters should have in information gleaned different kinds of Web sites. Government data is at the top of the list. Next is data from universities, followed by special interest groups, and last is "other." Seems obvious (it was updated in March 2004), but still nice to see.
