Today, FCW launches a new web site and newsletter called Government Health IT. It covers the governmentâs role in healthcare related IT policy and technology. The whole medical automation industry is getting a lot of attention, but we were interested in the role the government plays in the unfolding drama. As policymaker, standards setter, funding source, technology testbed and enterprise user, the federal government is driving the adoption of information technology in health care, which promises to revolutionize how health care is managed and delivered.
Weâd been toying with the idea of a news product covering government health IT for a while now. But as much as we liked the topic, we had no chance of creating a business out of it until there was a critical mass in the marketplace â until there was enough buying and selling of IT products and services.
It looks like the market is just about ready to tip.
There has been a flurry of health IT policy initiatives from the federal government, regional health information organizations (RHIOs) are getting some traction, and the international HIT community continues to be a bellwether for US policymakers and business leaders. Take a look at (and subscribe to!) all the recent news on Government Health IT. Itâs an embarrassment of riches.
