There’s a lively discussion on Slashdot called Google-NASA Partnership Backlash about Google’s plan to build a campus at Moffet Field in Santa Clara County. (Here’s the FCW story, with the part about the campus arrangement at the bottom.) Turns out, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, that the local officials are unhappy that Google won’t be paying property taxes.
Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. According to one Slashdot poster:
If Google's expanded presence in the area is a net drain on the economy, you've got something to fuss about. But we all know that what they'll be doing there will be nothing but stimulus for the local economy and the tax base.
