A friend sent me a press release that advises on managing employee information overload on the enterprise IT level. Sounds like a good idea – use tools that streamline, filter and minimize distractions. What’s interesting to me about this approach is the language that’s used to describe the problem and the solutions. It’s part psychology and part IT. The result sounds like something you’d hear discussed at a middle-school PTO meeting: Enterprise Attention Management.

…the problems causing "info-stress" are growing exponentially. Enterprises that address corporate cultural and behavior by implementing capabilities available in existing platforms will be ahead of the curve. Examples include using "attentional" technologies that pull the correct messages forward as along with "attention shielding" technologies that push unwanted messages back.

I wonder what the strategy was using language that many people will surely associate with attention deficit disorder.

Does that make it sound more serious than chronic messy desk syndrome?
