The Census Bureau today released its âfirst-ever estimates of U.S. business spending on information and communication technology (ICT) equipment.â?
The report, Information and Communication Technology: 2003, includes spending figures for hardware, software, telephone equipment and medical devices. The report breaks down the info for19 industries, like utilities, manufacturing, information, finance, etc. According to Census:
The ICTS data are critical for providing improved source data to the investment component of gross domestic product, capital stock estimates, and capital flow tables. The data will also be used to assess future productivity and economic growth prospects. In addition, the data provide facts about trends in such expenditures useful for identifying business opportunities, product development, and business planning.
I get the part about using this data as a benchmark for assessing future productivity, but I just donât see how data from 2003 can help a company identify business opportunities.
