If you havenât seen Mr. Kellyâs pizza ordering nightmare, itâs worth a look. The ACLU put together a flash presentation to combat the Real ID act. Like a training tutorial, the presentation runs through the computer screens a take-out pizza place might see when a customer orders. Thanks to the seamless integration of multiple data sources, Poor Mr. Kelly is subject to surcharges for delivery of his double-meat pizza because he has high cholesterol and lives in a neighborhood where there was a recent robbery. This witty, over-the-top presentation warns of what could happen if privacy safeguards on government and commercial data arenât enacted and enforced.
Yet anyone who works with computers, especially in government, knows this pizza privacy nightmare is a looooong way off. Getting up-to-date health, financial, geographic and commercial (retail) data working with an interface a high-schooler can use isnât going to happen anytime soon. This should go in the archives of âimpossible computer tricksâ? we all laugh at in the movies.
