I’m getting tired of reading in the press about the incompetence of government in its efforts in the Katrina disaster. Yes, there is confusion, miscommunication and incompetence scattered throughout a rescue effort of the scale none of us has ever seen. But to describe the operation in terms of partisan strategies is disrespectful to the thousands of people on the ground working the problem. It also reveals a serious lack of imagination and little understanding of the complexity of a port economy.

While I was trying to find the source for today’s blog title, I ran across this one that I like even better:

Professional logistics management means playing a good, solid game of hardball, even when the other side sometimes gets to write the rules—and the spectators bring rocks and bottles to throw when you drop the ball. (Gen. Earl T. O’Loughlin, USAF)
