Are podcasts and video Webcasts subject to 508 compliance rules? I hadnât thought of that until I saw this article, Captioning Streaming Media: Anticipating 508 Compliance Needs on the Campus Technology Web site. The article is written by Eric Todd, the manager of Classroom Digital Media Distribution for the Office of Information Technology at The Ohio State University, and it covers the technology available for captioning and the lack of standards not just for the media, but also for the storage, transmission, captioning, etc. "Most of these files are not captioned currently. There is no reason we canât provide captioning for all accepted formats, but standardizing on a process would be a preferred way of establishing best practices and developing community expertise," Todd writes.
Whatâs going on in the federal space regarding captioning podcasts?
