Mike Leavitt, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, appointed Dr. Robert Kolodner to be the national coordinator for health information technology.
Kolodner has been the interim head of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT since September 2006. In his previous position as chief health informatics officer at the Veterans Affairs Department's Veterans Health Administration, Kolodner oversaw the development of the VA’s e-health records system.
