John Johnson, assistant commissioner for integrated technology services at the General Services Administration, appointed Steve Kempf deputy assistant commissioner in the Office of Integrated Technology Services within the Federal Acquisition Service.

Kempf has been acting in this role since last summer. He previously was director of operations for GSA's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center -- the business unit that assists federal agencies in successfully implementing large, complex information technology and professional services projects. Kempf also brings regional experience to his new role. He worked in GSA's Region 9 as an IT manager for clients in Monterey, Calif. He later was technical chairman for ANSWER, GSA's first governmentwide acquisition contract.

Before joining GSA, Kempf was an attorney.
