Dr. Gregory Larkin was named chief medical officer of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), the group announced today.
Larkin will help set IHIE’s long-term clinical strategy and priorities for the services it provides, and will work to bridge the gap between information technology and clinical settings.
He joins IHIE after retiring from Eli Lilly and Co., where he was most recently director of corporate health services.
Larkin will lead all of IHIE’s clinical services, including strategy and implementation of the organization’s Quality Health First program and its DOCS4DOCS clinical messaging service. These delivery programs are being implemented statewide in partnership with the Regenstrief Institute to improve health care quality and costs.
At Eli Lilly, Larkin was one of the architects of the Quality Health First program in partnership with the Employers’ Forum of Indiana and IHIE.
Larkin was also president of the Indianapolis Medical Society.
A graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine and board certified in family medicine, Larkin practiced family medicine in Greencastle, Ind., from 1975 to 1986. In 1986, he joined Eli Lilly as a staff physician in the Employee Health Services division, and in 1992 he was promoted to the director of Corporate Health Services. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
