Sandford "Sandy" Blitz has been appointed regional administrator for the Small Business Administration's Region I, the agency announced today.
In this capacity, Blitz will oversee SBA district offices in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
A former economic development representative for the Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration, Blitz was responsible for overseeing programs to foster business growth throughout New England. He has also worked as assistant commissioner of the Public Buildings Service at the General Services Administration and executive assistant to Mayor Nicholas Panuzio in Bridgeport, Conn.
Blitz is currently executive director for the East-West Highway Association and executive manager of the Bangor Target Area Development Corp. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Public Administration at the University of Maine.
