The University of Tulsa announced today that it has hired David Greer as executive director for the Institute for Information Security (iSec).

Greer will be responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of iSec’s mission to produce exceptional graduates and technical discoveries in the information security field. He will also be the liaison between iSec and industry, government, academic partnerships and alumni. Greer’s duties will extend to seeking research funding for classified, unclassified, public and private projects.

Before taking on this position, Greer was an instructor at the institute. He has more than 10 years of experience, having worked as an information security and digital forensics consultant, information security coordinator, e-learning coordinator, and software compliance specialist. He earned a master’s degree in computer science from TU, and is currently completing his doctorate degree at the university.

Before returning to TU for his doctorate work, Greer spent five years as an information security coordinator developing continuing education and e-learning courses for the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. He is a founding member of the Cyber Security Education Consortium and also built three information assurance and digital forensics mobile laboratories.

Greer is an adviser for TU’s continuing education program, Oklahoma State University at Okmulgee's cybersecurity program and director of education for the Oklahoma chapter of the Information Systems Security Association.
